Austria’s Turk Appointed U.N. Human Rights Chief

The United Nations General Assembly has approved the appointment of Austria’s Volker Turk as the next U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights. He is the eighth High Commissioner to lead the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is the leading United Nations entity in the field of human rights, with a unique mandate to promote and protect all human rights for all people.
