PM Modi declares January 16 as National Startup Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that January 16 would now be celebrated as National Startup Day in order to spread the culture of startups in every nook and corner of the country. Hailing the present decade as the ‘techade’, PM Modi said that over 60,000 Indian start-ups are now working across 55 industries. The Prime Minister Office said that the initiative to boost startups has had a tremendous impact on the startup ecosystem in the country, and has led to a staggering growth of unicorns in the country. The startups, categorised under six groups, gave presentations to the Prime Minister on six themes — ‘growing from roots, ‘nudging the DNA’, ‘from local to global, ‘technology of future’, ‘building champions in manufacturing’ and ‘sustainable development. The Prime Minister is of the view that Indian startups can easily make it to the global stage and reach other countries. His message to the young people of the country “Don’t just keep your dreams local, make them global. Remember this mantra — let’s Innovate for India, innovate from India”.
