Tipu Sultan died on this day 217 years ago

Tipu Sultan, who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore from 1782 to 1799, passed away defending his capital in the fourth Anglo-Mysore war on May 4, 1799. Known as the Tiger of Mysore, his full name was Sultan Fateh Ali Khan Shahab. Sultan, the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali, learnt shooting, riding and swordsmanship at an early age.
