INS Viraat, India’s longest-serving warship, to be dismantled in Gujarat

INS Viraat, India’s longest-serving warship which has served the Indian Navy for 30 years, will be dismantled in Gujarat’s Alang and sold as scrap in September. The ship was completed and commissioned in 1959 as the Royal Navy’s HMS Hermes, and decommissioned in 1984. INS Viraat, which was decommissioned in 2017, was bought by Shree Ram Group at an auction in July.
