Scientists from MIT have pinned down the timing of the lunar dynamo’s end, to around 1 billion years ago. The lunar dynamo is the name given to the phenomenon in which the moon exhibited a magnetic field like Earth due to the churning of its core. Researchers analysed the magnetic fields of lunar rocks to determine the estimated time.
