As Delhi debates, Beijing acts to check air pollution

While Delhi continues to debate the 'tough' anti-pollution measures announced by the city government, China's capital Beijing on has issued its first "red alert" on air pollution since 2013, taking tougher and immediate measures to deal with a problem which appears to be comparable to what Delhiites face at the moment. As a haze filled the Beijing sky on 7th Dec., the average air quality index (AQI) recorded 201, which is "heavily polluted" as per the Chinese AQI system. This is the second worst of six pollution levels in the Chinese system. Beijing is considered far ahead of Delhi in tackling sources of air pollution.
