India is now the world’s most populous nation


India has become the world’s most populated country with 1,428.6 million people, surpassing China, which is the second most populous with 1,425.7 million people. China is followed by the US (340 million), Indonesia (277.5 million), Pakistan (240.5 million), Nigeria (223.8 million), Brazil (216.4 million), Bangladesh (173 million), Russia (144.4 million) and Mexico (128.5 million). According to the report, 25 per cent of India’s population is in the age group of 0-14 years, 18 per cent in the 10 to 19 age group, 26 per cent in the age bracket of 10 to 24 years, 68 per cent in 15 to 64 years age group, and 7 per cent above 65 years.
