Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud set to become the 50th Chief Justice of India

Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud is set to become the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) in November 2022. If this appointment is approved by the Central Government, Justice DY Chandrachud would be the first second-generation Chief Justice of India. Justice DY Chandrachud’s father – Justice YV Chandrachud – was the 16th Chief Justice of India. Justice D Y Chandrachud had earlier served as the Additional Solicitor General of India in 1998. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court in 2013. He has been associated with the Bombay High Court too. He was elevated as a judge in the top court in 2016.
