Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has assumed the charge as the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee as a stop-gap arrangement after the demise of CDS General Bipin Rawat. Notably, the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee used to be the senior-most among the three service chiefs before the creation of the CDS post. The post was vacant following the death of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat in the Indian Air Force helicopter crash on December 8.
