Myanmar’s State Counsellor and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has been named Humanitarian of the Year by students and faculty at the Harvard Foundation. Suu Kyi was a political prisoner for 21 years (1989 to 2010) for her “non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights” in Myanmar that had been under military rule for over 49 years since 1962
