Nelson Mandela had taken oath as the first non-white President of South Africa on May 10, 1994. Mandela’s African National Congress (ANC) party established a majority in the country’s first-ever multiracial parliamentary elections. These elections were held four years after Mandela was set free after spending 27 years in jail by the South African apartheid government.
