Google turns 18

Google, the $66-billion American technological giant which began as a search engine, but today draws a bulk of its profits from online advertising has turned 18. It was on September 15, 1997, that Larry Page registered the domain name Google.com after he and his founding partner Sergey Brin decided that BackRub, the search engine they were running from Stanford University, badly needed a change in identity.The tech company with a total of 57,149 employees, recently sounded upbeat when its Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat hinted that it might distribute some of its cash to its shareholders. For the record, Google has never repurchased stock nor paid a dividend.
