Nearly 3,000 are known to have died in a powerful earthquake in Nepal, with many more feared trapped under rubble. The 7.8 magnitude quake struck an area between the capital, Kathmandu, and the city of Pokhara, on 25th April. Tremors were felt across the region, with further loss of life in India, Bangladesh, Tibet & on Mount Everest. Saturday’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake spread horror from Kathmandu to small villages and to the slopes of Mount Everest, triggering an avalanche that buried part of the base camp packed with foreign climbers preparing to make their summit attempts. The government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas.
