American researchers have developed a new way to create compact holograms that can work across the light spectrum and may improve protection against fraud. These holograms use nanostructures that are sensitive to polarisation (the direction in which light vibrates), and can produce different images depending on incident light’s polarisation, thereby enabling storage and retrieval of more images.
