Indian-origin UK Army Captain becomes 1st woman of colour to trek solo to South Pole

British Army Captain Harpreet Chandi has become the first woman of colour to complete a solo unsupported trek to the South Pole. The 32-year-old Indian-origin Sikh officer completed the 700-mile (around 1,130 km) trek in 40 days in temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of around 60 mph. British Army’s Chief of the General Staff congratulated her.
