Indian-origin politician Sara Gideon, currently serving as Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, has been endorsed by former US President Barack Obama as the senatorial candidate for Maine. The 48-year-old was born to an Indian immigrant father and a second-generation Armenian mother in Rhode Island. If elected, she’ll be second Indian-American woman to be elected to the US Senate.
