Delhi has been witnessing the longest cold day spell after 12 years. Cold day condition arises when the maximum temperature falls down by 4.5 degree Celcius in winters. Severe cold day condition arises when there is a decline of 6.5 degree Celcius in the maximum temperature. It was freezing cold in most parts of the northern states on Christmas day, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at minus 4.3 degrees Celsius that froze water supply lines at several places.
