Macedonia has officially changed its name to the Republic of North Macedonia. The name change clears the way for the country to join military alliance NATO. Greece had argued that the name ‘Macedonia’ implied a territorial claim on its own province of the same name and had thus vetoed Macedonia’s entry into the NATO and European Union. North Macedonia, officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a country in the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe.
