The Indian Army’s Central Ammunition Depot in Maharashtra has devised a new method to use solar energy for disposing off old ammunition. The process uses steam generated by concentrated solar technology to melt the explosive material inside the shells. Traditionally, the old ammunition is disposed off using demolition explosives.
