9 nations won their 1st ever Olympic gold in Rio

A total of nine nations won their first ever Olympic gold medal at the recently concluded Rio Olympics, making it the most first-time gold medalists since 1996. Singapore, Bahrain, Fiji, Côte d’Ivoire, Jordan, Puerto Rico, Tajikistan, Vietnam and debutant nation Kosovo were the Olympics’ maiden gold-winners. The Independent Olympic Athletes team also registered its first-ever Olympic gold in Rio.
