Clock accurate to 270 quintillionths of a second

UCLA researchers have created a new optical clock, measuring one cubic centimeter, that can track time accurately to 270 quintillionths of second – 270 times 10 to the negative 18th power. “If incorporated with other technologies into infrared telescope observatories, this device can enable the detection of Earth-like planets and celestial objects 100 times smaller than that”, a researcher said.
