Iran has banned the teaching of English in primary schools after the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that early learning of the language could pave the way for Western “cultural invasion”. Khamenei had earlier blamed Iran’s “enemies” including the US and Britain for creating unrest in the country in the wake of anti-government protests.
